The article analyses the period from the establishment of the Republic of Latvia in 1918 to the Soviet occupation in 1940 from the perspective of the implementation of gender equality. The topic of gender equality is narrowed down to equal opportunities of both genders to obtain higher legal education and hold positions within the judiciary. Before the establishment of the Republic of Latvia, women faced significant restrictions on studying law and were prohibited from working in the judiciary. Therefore, it is essential to examine both the first female advocates, notaries, and the first female judge, as well as the men of their era who contributed to the promotion of gender equality by challenging prevailing stereotypes about men’s and women’s roles.
