Rūdolfs Blaumanis’ mother and grandparents in Suntaži: finds in the documents of the Latvian state historical archives

Keywords: history of Latvian literature, Rūdolfs Blaumanis’ mother Karlīne, grandparents Marija and Mārtiņš Šūbergs
Language: In Latvian

The article discloses a mystery, more than 170 years old: the location where Rūdolfs Blaumanis’ mother Albīne, Paulīne Karlīne Šūberga had lived after her father Mārtiņš Šūbergs had left Līdēre Estate in 1846. Until now, the finds and suggestions by the literary scientist Jānis Upītis (1911–1983) had been convincing. New data about Suntaži Rectory in 1846, 1850 and 1858 were found in the documents of the Latvian State Historical Archives. R. Blaumanis’ grandmother (mother’s mother) Marija Šūberga died in Suntaži Rectory on 16 April 1846. Writer’s mother Karlīne Šūberga lived in Suntaži Rectory from the age of 8 to 20 together with her father Mārtiņš Šūbergs. Previously these facts were  unknown to literary scientists, but writer R. Blaumanis’ mother played a great role in the creation of his personality.
