The article deals with the emergence and the significance of philosophy in Latgale — one of the regions of Latvia. In view of the historical circumstances of the development of Latgale the comparatively late appearance of philosophical reflection there is considered. The concepts of the geophilosopy (F. Nietzsche, G. Deleuze) and etnophilosophy (D. Haraway, J. Kristeva) have been used to substantiate the establishment of the philosophical nexus. The beginning of philosophical reflections in Latgale are to be looked for at the beginning of the 20th century, the flourishing is displayed in the second part of the century — in particular, with the establishment of the Department of Philosophy of the University of Latvia (The State University of Latvia at the time), which engaged some philosophers hailing from Latgale — P. Laizāns, A. Milts, P. Zeile, A. Strods. International recognition was gained by some Latgale philosophers living in emigration after the Second World War — Roman Catholic metaphysician S. Ladusāns and R. Avens (Mūks), who studied the non-traditional religious experiences of Western and Oriental type. The works of the philosophers of Latgalian extraction living in Latvia are concerned with the ethical, aesthetical and religious-cultural history of Latvia/Latgale.
