The article is dedicated to the memory of the outstanding Latvian composer Mārtiņš Brauns (17 September 1951 — 24 November 2021). The composer is the author of several emotionally powerful songs. His song “Sun, Thunder, Daugava” was written for the stage performance of the epic poem “Daugava” by Rainis, in 1988, at the Valmiera Drama Theatre. With the music of Mārtiņš Brauns, this performance became one of the strongest messengers of the Third Awakening, and the song “Sun, Thunder, Daugava” gained the value of a Latvian Mass. It is performed as part of the Latvian Song Festivals, at events important to the Latvian people, and in 2014 it was formed as the anthem of Catalonian independence seekers.
