The article analyses the development of the Latvian Lutheran liturgy in the 20th and at the beginning of the 21st century under the influence of global political and religious currents like nationalism, ecumenism, liturgical renewal, charismatic movement etc. The study is based on an approach of social history that views liturgy not only as an area of embodiment of theological ideas, but also as a result of socio-political processes and power relationships associated with them. Diversity that despite attempts to absolutise one or another liturgical style has existed in Christianity since its beginnings is also a characteristic feature of Latvian Lutheranism.
