Zbigņevs Stankevičs is the present Roman Catholic metropolitan archbishop of Riga (ordained as priest on 16 June 1996, consecrated as bishop on 8 August 2010, installed as metropolitan archbishop on 21 August 2010). Honorary member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences. Z. Stankevičs has published several scientific works, reported at scientific conferences. He willingly focuses on issues of society development and openly, uncompromisingly declares his opinion on these issues. The range of his interests includes Eastern culture — Hinduism, Buddhism. Z. Stankevičs masters six languages — Latvian, Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, English, and Italian, and can read and communicate also in French and German.
