Ringolds Balodis

Corresponding member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Professor Ringolds Balodis received his degree of the Doctor of Law from the University of Latvia in 2001. R. Balodis is a professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia and the Chair of the Board of the Legal Science Research Institute. Author and leader of the idea of the draft scientific comments on the Constitution. From 1997 to 2003, he was responsible for state–church relations (Director of the Department of the Ministry of Justice, Head of the Office of Religious Affairs). From 2008 to 2013, he was the Chief State Notary — the Head of the Register of Enterprises. From 2003 to 2015, Head of the Department of Constitutional Law, Faculty of Law, University of Latvia. From 2007, member of the European Consortium for Church and State Research. From 2016 to 2019, member of the OSCE ODIHR Panel of Experts on Freedom of Religion or Belief. From 2014 to 2018, member of the 12th Saeima, Secretary of the National Security Commission. In 2018, he was awarded the 2nd degree Badge of Honour of the Justice System from the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Latvia. Author of two monographs, more than 100 scientific publications. Specialised in constitutional law, comparative constitutional law.
