Prof. Dr. H. Dahmer, was born in Göttingen in 1937. He studied sociology, philosophy and literature at the universities of Bonn, Göttingen and Frankfurt am Main (With Max Horkheimer, Theodor W. Adorno, Jürgen Habermas), got a diploma in sociology and the PhD. From
1968 till 1992, he was chief editor of the psychoanalytic monthly Psyche, founded in 1947 by Alexander Mitscherlich. In 1974–2002, he was teaching sociology at the Technical University of Darmstadt. He is a member of the German Association of Sociologists (DGS) and has been
guest-professor at the universities of Bern, Lima and Innsbruck. He has been co-founder of the Hamburg Institute for Social Research in 1984 and, in 1986, of the “Centro psychoanálysis y sociedad” in Lima. Dahmer is the editor of a German annotated 10-volume collection of
Writings of Leon Trotsky.
