Guntis Zemītis

Dr. hist. Guntis Zemītis is a historian, archaeologist, leading researcher of the Institute of Latvian History, University of Latvia, Professor at Turība University, Full Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences. He led archaeological excavations in several Iron-Age and medieval archaeological monuments: at the medieval cemetery of Tērvete Sanatorium garden, the complex of archaeological sites at Daugmale (hillfort, old city and two burial grounds), Gaideļu–Viduču cemetery, Jelgava Castle, Satesele hillfort, and elsewhere.
Main research interests: society in Latvia in the Late Iron Age (9th–12th centuries), ancient Semigallians, issues of the history of law.
